SAN JOSE, Calif., July 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR), a leading provider of high performance network solutions, in conjunction with the Pro Football Hall of Fame (PFHOF), today announced a significant equipment grant to H.R. Walker Elementary School of the Canton Local Schools in Canton, Ohio. Extreme Networks and the PFHOF together are providing Walker Elementary with Wi-Fi and wired internal networks as well as a robust Internet connection with the donation of Extreme Networks' IdentiFi™ Access Point (AP3825) 802.11ac solution, Summit® X460 and Summit X440 switches, among others. The donation will be presented at a ceremony at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton today at 11:15 a.m., EDT. The event will host representatives from the Canton Local Schools, Walker Elementary School, Extreme Networks and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The school had been using an antiquated wired network with old switches that lacked a firewall, which do not meet the level of network security expected by today's state and federal agencies. The project will upgrade the school's entire network, provide a better broadband connection to the district and make its current Internet connection more efficient by using better network access controls to remove unwanted devices and traffic on their network. Ultimately, the donation will allow teachers to integrate technology seamlessly into the classroom and prepare for new online State testing that will be implemented during the next school year.

Reliable and high-density network bandwidth through Wi-Fi technology is essential to education, as recently validated by the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) E-rate program to help schools deploy Wi-Fi networks for more than 10 million students. Nick Stepanovich, Educational Strategist, Canton Local Schools

"Our network was outdated so it was critical that we upgrade our technology infrastructure to deliver on our promise of leading our 2,500 students in Canton Local to a brighter tomorrow. With the grant from Extreme Networks and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, we're benefitting students and teachers alike, allowing teachers to better integrate technology into their teaching and students to access a fast and reliable connection from their devices."

"Our work with Extreme Networks, through our Heart of a Hall of Famer Series, has focused on educational outreach to provide students the opportunity to engage and learn from legendary Heroes of the Game about how to achieve success on and off the football field. This project with Walker Elementary School will not only make it possible for classrooms to connect to distance learning content providers, such as the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but will also allow students and teachers to be more engaged in the learning process through fast and reliable connectivity."

Jonathan Kidwell, Director of Education, Extreme Networks

"As a proven leader in K-12 technology, our team is committed to delivering the infrastructure needed to integrate technology with student learning. In a district, such as Canton, that is committed to continuous improvement, it was critical that they reevaluate their IT infrastructure.
