Extreme Networks Provides Scalable Cloud Network Solutions to Finland's Elisa Corporation

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks (Nasdaq: EXTR) today announced that cloud provider and telecommunications company Elisa Corporation of Finland has selected its high-performance data center solutions, based on its Summit® and BlackDiamond® switches, as it scales out its managed cloud services.

Some of the largest global businesses, technology companies, and governments run their data centers on Extreme Networks, including Ericsson, Falabella stores, Korea Telecom, LINX of London, Lockheed, NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Reliance Globalcom, Samsung, VMware and Wynn Resorts.

Finland's leading Hosting company, Elisa Corporation, which also created its largest 3G network, today deploys Extreme Networks Managed Hosting network solutions to deliver rapidly customizable services to businesses, such as hosted business applications and converged storage.

A key requirement for Managed Hosting companies is the capability to deliver scalable services achieved through virtualization. VMs are mobile in nature, moving dynamically from server to server. To support VM mobility, the network must track VM movement efficiently, while also migrating network profiles and other key attributes automatically to the target server.  Extreme Networks XNV™ (ExtremeXOS® Virtualization) enforces attributes in real time, works to reduce common configuration errors and gives control back to the network team. Additionally, Extreme Networks XNV supports heterogeneous environments, with functionality available across multiple hypervisors.

Elisa Corporation will leverage Extreme Networks XNV software modules, enabling virtual machine (VM) lifecycle management, to deliver to its customers high availability, performance and security.

To enable diverse cloud services, Extreme Networks Managed hosting and virtualized cloud network solutions are purpose-built for enabling virtualization, convergence and consolidation.  Extreme Networks switches provide scalability, high density of 10 and 40 GbE ports, virtualization lifecycle management, automation, and integration into existing management and provisioning platforms.

"Extreme Networks data center solution addresses the challenges that the network needs to tackle in automating the network and supporting large scale virtualization of servers," said Ari-Martti Pohtola, director of technology for Elisa's IT business unit. "Extreme Networks approach brings the increased level of control and automation that is beneficial as the Elisa Corporation's network evolves to deliver a customizable set of services and applications over the cloud."

"The challenge of scale and efficiency is being met by Elisa Corporation as they have built a flexible and high-performance cloud infrastructure that grows with customer demand," said Shehzad Merchant, Vice President of Strategic Technology for Extreme Networks.  "Extreme Networks helps ensure that the network is ready to grow while at the same time maintaining control over virtualized assets as they migrate throughout the network."
