Tennessee Wesleyan College Extends Campus Connectivity and Student Experience with Extreme Networks Mobile Solutions

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) today announced that Tennessee Wesleyan College has implemented its high-performance converged mobile network, allowing it to exceed students' expectations for learning by supporting advanced education and computing services securely and reliably, over wired and wireless.

Tennessee Wesleyan joins more than 700 education institutions that run their campus networks on Extreme Networks.  They include the University of California at Berkeley, Cambridge, Georgia State, Imperial College of London, University of Massachusetts, University of Miami, Michigan State, Surrey University, Tennessee Tech, Texas A&M, Villanova and the University of Washington.

Tennessee Wesleyan College provides a diverse learning curriculum with 30 programs of study. The college has undergone a transformation of its IT infrastructure to support 21st century education. The college is working with Extreme Networks to upgrade its entire campus, from student dorms and commons, to classrooms and libraries, to provide wired and wireless network connectivity with boosted performance to support video and data on the same network.  The campus spans multiple acres and more than 30 buildings, where a consistent and simplified network benefits students and staff.

"Wired and wireless network mobility is the paramount concern for our students, as they work during class hours and enjoy their devices with their free time," said Joe Passmore, Director of Campus Information Technology at Tennessee Wesleyan. "We required a network that was ready to support all of our needs, rather than a piecemeal approach, and Extreme Networks has more than met the challenge."

The College has implemented Extreme Networks converged network consisting of its Summit® fixed switching solutions and overlay Wireless LAN mobility solution featuring high-performance 802.11n technology. The college now has a foundation for mobility in an easy-to-manage-and-upgrade network that boasts performance and support of high-resolution video.

"Extreme Networks new snap-on mobility Wi-Fi solution, the compact Altitude™ 4511 wallplate access point, makes for a terrific solution in expanding WLAN 802.11n into new areas and cost-effectively addressing locations that have been difficult to reach," continued Passmore. "The access point holds great potential for further expanding our network."

The Tennessee Wesleyan network was built with a combination of Extreme Networks Summit fixed switches and Wireless LAN mobility solutions that deliver impressive performance, resiliency and availability. The network provides flexible design options with easy set-up and configuration for the college's IT staff. The bottom line is a boost in performance and simplicity that can help save money due to features and functionality that are robust and consistent.
