(Nasdaq: EXTR) today announced that the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA) Saclay, a global leader in research and development based in France, has selected and successfully deployed its high performance and high capacity Ethernet network for its grid computing projects, CARRIOCAS and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which powers one of the world's largest energy particle accelerators.
CEA Saclay is a multi-disciplinary research center employing more than 5,000 researchers who are seeking to unravel the mysteries of matter, life, new technologies and nuclear waste among other focus areas. The CARRIOCAS grid project requires ultra-high network and processing speeds, enabling digital simulations on supercomputers in addition to the remote processing of large volumes of data.
CEA Saclay chose Extreme Networks' scalable 10GbE Ethernet network solutions to power the Grid network research, in addition to a recently proposed Grid Search Ile-de-France, (GRIF), due to its high-performance, robust feature set and low total cost of ownership. Additionally, Extreme Networks has a history of experience assisting leading science organizations across the globe including SARA/CERN and the NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center.

Following its initial network deployment, CEA Saclay deployed Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8800 switches for the Large Hadron Collider project, supporting research around the world's largest energy particle accelerator, which required remarkable network performance and availability.
Despite research running three times higher than initially expected, the Saclay network featuring Extreme Networks infrastructure, backed by the ExtremeXOS® operating system, supported more than 1,200 additional analytical employees and the associated increase in the volume of research production.
