EXTREME NETWORKS JOINS THE GREEN GRID
EXTR) today announced that it is furthering the efficient use of energy in networking by joining The Green Grid. As a member of this consortium, Extreme Networks® will help promote the adoption of energy efficient standards, processes, measurements and technologies within data centers.
The Green Grid is a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. The consortium’s scope includes collaboration with other industry groups and government organizations worldwide to ensure that each organizational goal is aligned with both developers and users of data center technology.
“CIO’s overseeing data centers are demanding cost-efficient network solutions where a significant portion of their operational costs can be reduced through energy savings,” said Paul Hooper, chief marketing officer for Extreme Networks. “Joining The Green Grid is another example of Extreme Networks ongoing commitment to improving power efficiency with systems, software tools and network designs that reduce energy consumption throughout the network.”
Extreme Networks will work with The Green Grid to help develop and deliver energy efficient technologies and best practices for our customers with particular focus on the implementation of green technologies in Ethernet switching solutions targeted at data centers.
Earlier this year, Extreme Networks BlackDiamond® 8800 switch was independently evaluated by The Tolly Group to be one of the most efficient modular Ethernet switches in the industry. Additionally, the Summit® X450 edge switch was independently evaluated by David Newman of Network World and the switch was proven to have the lowest power consumption during fully loaded operation among a half dozen competing solutions tested. Adding the device management characteristics inherent in Extreme Networks’ ExtremeXOS® operating system, a single, modular operating system available across the Extreme Networks’ core and edge product family, Extreme Networks can optimize and tune the network across the entire data center for energy efficient operation.
