Extreme Networks Is Driving Broadband Into Rural America

SANTA CLARA, CA, Aug 27, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR), today announced it is driving broadband networks intro rural America. In concert with the U.S. Government's Broadband Stimulus program, Extreme Networks is targeting carriers deploying next-generation broadband networks in rural areas with USDA RUS-Accepted solutions and proven reference architectures for residential triple play services at the lowest total cost of ownership.

Kicking off the initiative in Texas, Extreme Networks will participate in the Texas Telephone Association, Inc. (TTA) 2009 Convention and Product Showcase. At the showcase, Extreme Networks will highlight a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Transport reference architecture built with the company's Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Certified and RUS-Accepted Summit(R) and BlackDiamond(R) Ethernet transport switch families.

The TTA, of which Extreme Networks is now a member, is the trade association that supports the Texas incumbent local exchange telephone companies. There are 61 incumbent local exchange telephone companies providing service to more than 13 million access lines in 1,244 exchanges across Texas. The TTA Convention & Product Showcase is being held August 30 to September 2 in San Antonio, Texas (http://www.tta.org/pdf/2009_TTA_Registration.pdf).

"We're committed to helping rural carriers that are expanding their broadband services," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president and general manager for the Scalable Products Group at Extreme Networks. "Because of our success deploying carrier networks for triple play services globally, we bring the right expertise and proven reference architectures to the table, lowering the total cost of ownership and helping to improve the bottom line."
