Extreme Networks Supports SC'13 SCinet Event Network with BlackDiamond X8 High Speed Switch

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) today announced that its flagship Ethernet switch, the BlackDiamond® X8, will play a critical role in driving the Supercomputing Conference's (SC'13) SCinet event network, held in Denver, CO occurring Nov. 17-22nd.

SCinet is one of the most powerful and advanced networks in the world designed to meet all the networking connection demands for SC13 conference, attended by close to 10,000. The BlackDiamond X8 switch will operate within the SCinet network as a Deployable Network Operations Center (DNOC) router for the distribution of high-speed networking to boost attendees' connectivity.

SC13 is where breakthroughs and exciting technology is showcased year after year to members of academia, science and industry.  Volunteers and network vendors work together to design and deliver the state-of-the-art SCinet infrastructure.

Planning begins more than a year in advance and culminates with a high-intensity installation in the week leading up to the conference. With the help of Extreme Networks BlackDiamond X8, SCinet will provide high capacity network support for revolutionary applications and experiments at SC13, connecting the Colorado Convention Center with research and commercial networks around the world.

SCinet is collaborating with Extreme Networks because the BlackDiamond X8 provides a unique 'fabric-in-a-box' solution that eliminates expensive multi-tier architectures and the challenges of inter-device connectivity, uplink bandwidth and latency. With its open and ease of configuration, it provides neutral vendor integration with the other routers in the network, simplifying the implementation in any existing network.

Designed for the cloud-scale requirements of Data Centers, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Internet Exchange Points (IXP), the BlackDiamond X8 will provide SC13 attendees with a low-latency, high performance switch fabric with high-density wire-speeds of 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE connectivity for edge-to-core applications. The BlackDiamond X8 also leverages a low-power design, ideal for green operations and high degrees of energy efficiency, resulting in lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
