Extreme Networks Summit X650 Switch Voted Data Center Product of the Year

SANTA CLARA, CA, Mar 25, 2009 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Extreme Networks (NASDAQ: EXTR) is celebrating its success following the Network Computing (UK) Awards 2009 after winning two major high technology industry awards during a ceremony held in London March 19th. The Summit(R) X650 10 gigabit "Top of Rack" switch was voted the Data Center Product of the Year and the Summit(R) X450 family of switches received the Infrastructure Product of the Year award.

The 2009 Network Computing Awards were voted on by thousands of readers and were comprised of 24 categories to reflect the wide range of application areas that impact the modern day network. Extreme Networks was recognized because it is ideally positioned to address the growing needs of end users, connected edge devices and the high performance networking demands set by today's dynamic organizations. Extreme Networks switching products were short listed as finalists in four separate categories, winning the Network Infrastructure Product of the Year and Data Centre Product of the Year categories against competitors, including Cisco and Juniper Networks.

"Receiving two Product of the Year awards for our solutions that deliver excellent performance, functionality and value to data centers and campus networks is truly an honor," said Harpreet Chadha, senior director of product management for Extreme Networks. "Extreme Networks is continually innovating to meet the changing requirements of data centers, where Ethernet has an expanded role for storage and virtualization, and converged networks. Our Summit family of switches, featuring a single modular operating system, ExtremeXOS, offers a compelling solution and the market is taking notice."

The Summit(R) X650 10 Gigabit fixed switch is a "Top of Rack" Ethernet solution supporting copper and fiber connectivity. The switch is purpose built to boost performance for data, storage and virtualization and change economics in data centers. It uniquely addresses the demands of data center, IP storage and high capacity network aggregation requirements by supporting dense 10 gigabit server and switch connections, delivering resiliency and by supporting multiple 10 gigabit interfaces.

The Summit(R) X450 provides end users with advanced convergence and resiliency features available as standard with the ExtremeXOS(R) modular operating system. This allows organizations to optimize the functionality of their networks and allow for high productivity while supporting all of their business applications and IP communications.

The readers of the magazine vote for the Network Computing Awards winners, with 2009 seeing a record number of entrants as well as voters registering their opinion for the best in class solutions for the networking industry.

"The Network Computing Awards were launched to recognize the products, services and companies that have particularly impressed readers of Network Computing, the UK's longest established computer networking magazine," says Network Computing Awards Event Director, Dave Bonner. "2009 saw the 3rd annual Network Computing Awards take place, where more than 25,000 votes were cast."
