Extreme Networks and Ixia Demonstrate Industry-Leading 10 Gigabit Ethernet Throughput of 128 Gigabits per Slot at Interop

SANTA CLARA, CA, May 18, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXTR) today announced that its next generation data center solutions, the BlackDiamond 8800 modular switch and its Summit X650 fixed switches are being showcased this week, at Extreme Networks booth #1831 at Interop, Las Vegas, May 19-21st.

To showcase its industry leading performance, Extreme Networks and Ixia will demonstrate 10 Gigabit Ethernet density with the BlackDiamond(R) 8800 "End of Row" switch, featuring the newly launched BlackDiamond 8900-series modules. This solution scales networks with industry-leading capacity per line card of 128 gigabits and 10 Gigabit Ethernet density of 24 ports per slot. The BlackDiamond 8810 can also scale to support 582 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in a single rack.

Extreme Networks high performance data center network solutions allow network operators to cost-effectively scale their networks, reduce power consumption and enjoy simplified management through uniform software and features brought with the ExtremeXOS(R) operating system. By delivering a single, end-to-end network operating system across its entire network switching portfolio, enterprises achieve the benefit of consistent configuration and eased day-to-day operation of the network.

"Today's data center networks are being driven by a combination of powerful server technologies, virtualization and bandwidth-intensive applications," said Kevin Ryan, director of marketing for data center solutions for Extreme Networks. "We are pleased to work with Ixia to showcase our market-leading data center solutions at Interop, where attendees expect to experience the leading edge of networking."

"IxYukon's industry-leading 10Gigabit density is the perfect tool for testing next generation switches, such as Extreme's 8810 by providing the means for high-throughput, full layer 2-7 testing for all data center components," said Anupam Sahai, Vice President of Marketing at Ixia.

Extreme Networks showcase at Interop is enabled with Ixia's high density IxYukon 10GbE load modules and highly scalable XM hardware platform, allowing for industry leading packet throughput with the Extreme Networks BlackDiamond 8900-10G24Xc series module. Forty eight IxYukon SFP+ ports are used to generate line rate full-mesh concurrent traffic through the BlackDiamond 8800 switch using IxAutomate RFC2889 Full Mesh.
